Horseshoe Hammond History
In 1996, Horseshoe Hammond opened its first vessel as Empress Casino. The first riverboat casino was a mere fraction of the current vessel’s size at just 54,000 square feet. In 1999, Jack Binion’s Horseshoe Gaming Holding Corporation acquired Empress that included both the Hammond casino and a nearby venue in Joliet, Illinois.
In 2001, Horseshoe Gaming rechristened the hotel as Horseshoe Casino Hammond before Harrah’s Entertainment purchased the property in 2004. Harrah’s rebranded as Caesars Entertainment in 2010 and four years prior, they laid out plans to construct a new riverboat. In 2008, the Friedmutter Group completed the new boat.
Vici Properties then purchased the vessel and property before leading back to Caesars, who continues to own and operate the casino to this day.
